At 8:02 on April 20, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in Lushan County, Ya'an, Sichuan Province. Sudden disaster caused severe damage to China Telecom's communications facilities in Ya'an: Ya'an to Baoxing and Lushan counties blocked main optical cables; Baoxing, Lushan, and Tianquan counties' telecommunication rooms and business offices were severely damaged; 67% The mobile base station was damaged; the disaster also caused a complete blockage of communications in Baoxing County, and the communications in Lushan and Tianquan counties were severely disrupted. According to currently incomplete statistics, China Telecom has suffered more than 300 million yuan worth of communication facilities and equipment in the earthquake.

The disaster is an order. In the 40 minutes after the earthquake, China Telecom’s first batch of emergency telecommunications vehicles and rescue personnel had already rushed to the disaster area, and each batch of emergency communications support teams also began to set off. As of April 24, China Telecom sent a total of 87 emergency repair teams and more than 900 emergency repair personnel to fight on the frontline of disaster relief. It has invested more than 2,500 personnel in various types of emergency repairs, and has allocated and purchased 12 batches of materials, and put emergency response communications vehicles on disaster-prevented lines. There were 77 vehicles, satellite phones, 117 diesel engines, 101 fiber splicing machines, and other types of repair equipment, all of which restored communication in the disaster-stricken areas and provided powerful communication guarantees for rescue and disaster relief work.

As of 18:16, on the 24th, China Telecom’s emergency rescue personnel experienced 106 hours of day-and-night fighting, leaned back and forth, slammed mountains and water, risked their lives and smashed all 33 public communications in the affected townships, and China Telecom’s fixed in the disaster-stricken area in Ya'an. The telephone, broadband and mobile phone services were all restored and the second optical cable transmission route protection was completed in Baoxing, Lushan, and Tianquan counties. With the restoration of public communications services in the disaster area, from the 25th onwards, China Telecom’s rescue and disaster relief efforts will focus on ensuring that the restored communications are stable and unblocked, doing a good job of post-disaster communication services, and starting post-disaster reconstruction.
