Florida Power Lighting's FPL has been approved by the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) to build three solar centers, which will give Florida the second-largest solar power supply industry in the United States.
The three solar power centers are:
1. DeSoto Solar Energy Center, which will provide 25MW of PV capacity, is expected to be operational in December 2009.
2. Martin Martin Solar Center will provide 75MW of solar thermal power generation capacity, the world's first collector solar steam power generation system with integrated cycle steam turbine generator. The project will be operational early in 2009 and will be completed by 2010.
3. The solar project at the Kennedy Space Center will provide 10 MW of photovoltaic capacity and is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2010.
