The European Broadcasting Organization’s European Broadcasting Union (EBU) recently released a guide for HDR to members and introduced HDR technology to EBU members.

The EBU stated that this guide outlines key concepts and technologies related to HDR and includes more detailed indicators. This guideline will be updated frequently to reflect the progress of HDR standardization as well as the experience and insights of broadcasters.

The EBU also initiated a document exchange mechanism that helps verify the accuracy of HDR document metadata. EBU members can join the EBU Video Systems Group to participate in this exchange.

Last November, the DVB Steering Committee approved the latest revision of the UHD-1 standard.

DVB added the hybrid logarithm gamma (HLG) system jointly developed by BBC and NHK in this standard. HLG is compatible with SDR TVs and supports real-time broadcasting. At the same time, the DVB standard also supports the Perceptual Quantization (PQ-10) system developed by Dolby. PQ received support from some studios and Netflix.

DVB is still discussing how to add additional elements to the UHD-1 Phase II standard, and agrees that it should join HDR's "dynamic metadata" business case.

HDR brings extra "vitality" to ultra-high definition images by increasing highlight brightness and shadow details.
